Steve “PA” Betz, 50, of Caroga Lake, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January, 8, 2008 at Nathan Littauer Hospital. He remained active to the end as his body struggled with the effects of leukemia and its treatment. Steve made his transition with dignity, courage, and his sense of humor intact.

He was born May 10, 1957 in Lewisburg, PA, a son of the late Donald R. and Dorothy (Harmon)Betz, formally of Milton, PA. Steve graduated from Milton High School in 1975 and moved with his parents to Caroga Lake, NY, in that same year. He immediately became known as “PA” to the friends that he made as he worked in the area leather industries.

Stephen was well read and his expert knowledge of history left scholars in awe. He enjoyed visiting and recalling the battles of Revolutionary and Civil War sites throughout the eastern part of the United States. He was interested in antique firearms and was a member of the Caroga Fish & Game Club. Steve had a deep love of nature in all of its forms and he encouraged bountiful harvests from his gardens in the rocky mountain soil. He was a farmer at heart without a farm but owning two well tended tractors.
