Stephen W. Barnett, 65, of Newnan passed away on Tuesday, June 9th at Piedmont Newnan Hospital from complications from surgery. Stephen was born on October 10, 1949, in Atlanta to the late Jack and Hazel Barnett. Stephen graduated from Newnan High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was a disabled veteran and earned two Purple Hearts, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, and Vietnam Campaign Medal during his tour. He loved coaching Little League and Pony baseball, the Liberty Bell Ladies traveling softball team for over ten years, NASCAR, GA Tech Football, and traveling and exploring the US by visiting many states more than once. His passion for life and adventure was only exceeded by his love for his family. If you knew him, he made every moment the best moment of your life! Over the last seventeen years, he overcame his physical challenges by letting his light shine and never letting his physical limitations get the best of him. His memory and spirit will be forever etched in our hearts.

In addition to his high school sweetheart and wife of forty-eight (48) years, Kathy Eason Barnett, Stephen is survived by a large and loving family. Daughter, Kandy Barnett Roy, and husband, Terry of New Hampshire; sons Stephen W. Barnett, Jr. “Bucky” and Lisa (Peavy) of South Carolina; Scott W. Barnett and Clare (Johnston) of Newnan, Stacy W. Barnett and Melissa (White) of Tyrone, and Sandy W. Barnett of Newnan; grandchildren are Will Larkey and wife, Lauren (Massey), Christopher Barnett, Wimberley Larkey Morris and husband Taylor, Haley Barnett Grossi and husband, Zach; McKenzie Barnett, Logan Haynes, Lauren Barnett, Bailey Barnett, Hunter Barnett, Truth Roy, Aiden Barnett, Rylan Barnett, Hudson Barnett, Madisson Norman, Gavin Norman, and Camden Barnett. Great-Grandchildren, Ben, and Caroline Larkey; He is also survived by Father-in-Law, Billy Eason, and Sister-in-Law, Lori Eason Milton and husband, Richard of Panama City Beach, and Brothers, Nieces, and Nephews. Let’s not forget his fur buddies, Charlie and Dexter.
