Stephen Alan Kohrumel passed away September 11, 2011 in Hobbs, New Mexico. Steve was born in Wilmington, Delaware on February 10, 1956, and attended school in Midland, Michigan, graduating high school in 1974. Steve then married and joined the Navy to serve his country, traveling with his family to several places in the United States. It was during this time that he fell in love with San Diego California, and spent most of his life there after his time in the Navy. Steve came to Hobbs to spend time with his sister and heal from a recent surgery and while not a native of Hobbs, he marveled at the community for the warmth of the people and the sense of community he found with everyone he met.
Stephen was a son, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and friend and left behind his spouse Yolanda of nine years and five wonderful children from his previous marriages: Stephanie Noragon and her husband Aaron of Midland, Michigan, Josh Kohrumel and his wife Mary of San Diego, California, Lauren Kohrumel of Midland, Michigan, Ethan and Aaron Kohrumel of Elk city, Oklahoma, and two new grandsons, Bailey Noragon and Julian Kohrumel. Steves goal had been to recover from his surgery and meet his new grandsons by the years end. Steve enjoyed time with his mother, Jeanie Hammond of Fort Myers, Florida, and with his several brothers and sisters, Kathy and Vic Hopner of Reno, Nevada, Chris and Toni Hammond of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Steve Hammond of Midland, Michigan, Jeff Hammond of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Linda and Chris Williams of Hobbs, New Mexico. Steve also had a long list of those friends he considered his extended family all over the world, and specifically, in Midland and San Diego where he belonged to a motorcycle club. Steve was predeceased by his stepfather, Frank Hammond his father, Richard Kohrumel, brother, Robert Kohrumel, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
