Stella Peterson, age 81, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Emmetsburg, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake. She was born on November 3, 1931, in Cudahy, Wisconsin, to Carl and Josephine (Nowaczynski) Kowniak. Stella worked in the Lakes Area for many years managing condos and other properties. She also cleaned for many of the resorts in the area. Stella enjoyed spending her spare time dancing, meeting people, listening to music, especially gospel, bird watching and collecting nick-nacks. Stella is survived by three daughters, Karen Shorey Peterson of Ocheydan, Kris Baas of Ayrshire, and Pam Langhoff, and her husband, Dave, of Mason City; three sons, David Peterson of Spirit Lake, Tim Peterson of Michigan, and Mark Peterson, and his wife, Davinne, of Worthington; sister, Rose Bronk of Missouri; two brothers, Ed Nowaczynski of Wisconsin, and Chet Nowaczynski, and his wife, Carol, of Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jim; two brothers, Tony and Nathan; and her husband, Marvin Peterson.
