Stanley R. Offner, the son of Grace (Rose) and Johan Offner, was born January 22, 1926 at Cowles, Nebraska. He departed this life on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 16 days.

​A lifelong resident of Webster County, Stan graduated from high school in 1944. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp on March 19, 1945 to service his country during World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre of Operations and was discharged at war’s end on December 1, 1946.  He returned to the Red Cloud area and was united in marriage with Phyllis J. Palmer on January 25, 1948 at Red Cloud. This union was blessed with three children, Steven, Michael and Shelley.  Stan was a Texaco Distributor for many years and then was employed with the U.S. Post Office as a rural mail carrier until his retirement.

​Stan always took great pride in his community and dedicated his time and talents to a number of organizations. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church for over 70 years. He belonged to both the American Legion Post #238 and the V.F.W. Sidlo Post #5641. Stan was a Red Cloud city councilman for 13 years and then served another 6 years as Mayor. Additionally, Stan was a member of Charity Lodge #53 A.F.&A.M., the Shrine Order of Jesters, the United Methodist Men and the Red Cloud Golf Course. He especially enjoyed meeting his friends daily at the course for their 1:00 p.m. tee time. In his leisure time he maintained one of the best yards in the community and every season he and Phyllis were dedicated fans of the Nebraska Huskers and looked forward to attending the games at Memorial Stadium.  Stan and Phyllis will be fondly remembered for being part of the Friday Night Group, which gathered weekly at various restaurants in the area.

​Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Phyllis; son Michael; a sister, Annabelle Hafer and brothers, Joe and Herbert Offner.

​Left to cherish his memory are his son, Steve Offner and wife, Susan, of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Jan Offner of Red Cloud; daughter, Shelly Clayburn and husband, Neal, of Lincoln, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Wanda Brown and husband, Burdette, of Hastings, Nebraska; other relatives and many friends.

​A memorial fund has been established by the family.
