Stan and Janice both graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and were married on August 1, 1971. At Stan’s death they had celebrated 45 years together.

Stan was gifted with a joyful heart, child-like enthusiasm, and a witty personality which helped both in his career and his passion to help others.

Stan was injured in an accident in 1987 while helping a stranger. He suffered a traumatic head injury, leaving him a quadriplegic for the remainder of his life.  However, while his body was broken, his spirit never wavered.  Stan leveraged his faith to sustain his spirit, his marriage, his family and that is where he derived his strength.  His life is an example of true love, sacrifice, faith and how to be a great father.

Philippians 4:13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

1 Corinthians 13:7 (Love) It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Stan was preceded in death by his father Winefred Neal and mother Jessie Neal.

Stan is survived by his wife Janice Neal, sons Matthew (wife Jana) and Nicholas (wife Ashlea), along with five grandchildren Juliana, North, Winona, Sonia, and Hope.  He is also survived by his sister, Annita Guth, and her family.  He is also survived by countless nurses, CNAs, doctors, the extended Tommey and Taylor families, friends in the Seekers Sunday school class, and even strangers who assisted him in this thirty-year long journey.

The family thanks the many kind caregivers that assisted Stan and specifically those at the Jimmy Simpson Foundation where he lived for the last 11 years.
