Staff Sgt. William Franklin (Bill) King Jr. 62 of 627 Lee Gaddy Lane Clinton died Tuesday August 3, 2010 at Kitty Askins Hospice in Goldsboro.

Born in Sampson County in 1948 to William Franklin Sr. and Josephine Peterson Griffin.

SSG King Serviced in the United States Army with the 101st the 82nd Airborne Division and 173rd Combat infantry and, U.S. Army Ranger. Serving in the United States Army for 11 years SSG King, was awarded several Honorable awards, as Bronze Star with Oak leaf Cluster, 2 purple Hearts with Oak leaf Cluster, Good Conduct with 3 knots, Parachutist, Jumpmasters. National Defense Metal, Presidential Unit Citation, Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, Combat Action Award, Expert Marksman in Rifle and Pistol. 8 Oversea Tours Service Bars, Vietnam Service Awards. Military Police Award. After returning home SSG King put his experience to work with Sampson County Sheriff Department and the Roseboro Police Department then years later transferring to Randolph County Sheriff Department and preceded in death by a sister Janet King.

Staff Sgt. King is survived by his wife Lori Cunningham King of the home. Daughters, Kala King of the home, Denica Cummingham of Seattle Washington. Sons, SGT.Robbie and wife Lisa King of Clinton, James Franklin and wife Angela King of Thomasville, 6 Grandchildren Chase and Carter King and Taylor, Evan, Emmitt and Jackson King
