Sr. Ruth Ann Gardner ,OP

Dominican Sister of Peace Ruth Ann Gardner, died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH, on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. She was born in Steubenville, OH, on December 4, 1924. Sr. Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents Jerome and Ruth (Loftus) Gardner. She entered the Novitiate of the former Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus in 1943 and made her Profession of Vows in 1944. Sr. Ruth Ann served as principal at St. Thomas GS in Abiquiu, NM (1962-68); St Peter GS in Steubenville, OH (1974-77); and St. Anne GS in Santa Fe, NM (1977-82, 1988-92). Sr. Ruth Ann earned a BS from the College of St. Mary of the Springs (now Ohio Dominican University) and an MA from the University of Dayton. She ministered in the Columbus Diocese at Holy Trinity, Somerset, OH (1968-70). Sr. Ruth Ann spent 24 years ministering to the poor in the congregation’s missions in New Mexico and Texas. In addition, she taught in schools in Steubenville, OH, and McKees Rocks, PA. Sr. Ruth Ann served the congregation for more than a decade at the Columbus Motherhouse as Director of Maintenance and Supplies, Superior of the Motherhouse, and Administrative Assistant. She was a resident volunteer at the Motherhouse before moving to Mohun Health Care Center in 2008. Sr. Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her sisters Nancy Kukor and Eleanor Jane Schnabel. She is survived by her sister, Ann Adey; and nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
