WALLINGFORD – Sophie Babich, 87, departed this life on June 2, 2018 at the Skyview Center Nursing Home. She was born in New York, NY on November 29, 1930 to the late John and Monica (Strusinski) Nachajska and for over 60 years was loving wife to the late Victor Babich.
In her early years, Sophia grew up and attended school in Queens, NY. It was during her high school years that Sophie met the love of her life, Victor. While still living in New York, Sophie worked as an overseas telephone operator and soon thereafter, she and Victor moved to Wallingford, CT, where they married and started their family. Along with her husband, Sophie ventured into the restaurant and catering business in town, one of the fruits of their labor being Trader Vics Restaurant.
Sophie was a fun loving and passionate woman. She put her heart and soul into anything and everything she did. She was always on the go and especially loved boating, camping, cooking, and going to the Oakdale to see shows. She had a fondness of all animals, dogs being her favorite. Sophie faced each experience in her life with positivity and love. Ultimately, her family was the most important thing in her life, especially her grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a blessing to all who knew her.
Sophie is survived by her two sons Stephen Babich (Donna Schwartz) and Victor Babich Jr. (Donna Babich), both of Wallingford as well as her six grandchildren; Stephen Babich Jr., Joshua Babich (Lisa), Jessica Caponigro (Jay), Tara Schwartz, Victoria Sullivan (Sean) and Tory Davis (April). She also leaves behind three precious great-grandchildren; Ezio Babich, Skye Worrel, Zachary Caponigro. Besides her husband and parents, Sophie is predeceased by her brother, Walter Nachajska and her sister, Irene Nachajska.
