Sister Marianne Mader died on June 7 in Mother Theodore Hall, St. Mary-of-the-Woods. She was born on Jan. 15, 1947 in Indianapolis, IN, to Eugene and Frances Ley Mader and was baptized Marianne Agnes.
Sister Marianne entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence on Sept. 30, 1967 and received the name Sister Ann Eugene. She professed Final Vows on March 8, 1975.
Of her 53 years as a Sister of Providence, she was a teacher for 12 years in Indianapolis. Studying library science, she served as a medical librarian for the Community Hospital system in Indianapolis for 15 years.
Ill health forced Sister Marianne to take a leave from full-time ministry for a number of years.
She came to Motherhouse in 2006 and worked in the Congregation Archives. At the same time, she worked remotely as a patient advocate for BIORX, headquartered in Cincinnati. She remained in Archives until more health issues forced her to move to Mother Theodore Hall in 2019.
Sister Marianne had a great sense of humor and loved to be with people, especially her sisters and her family. A librarian to the core, she was an avid reader and would do research for any sister or friend who wanted facts on a illness or a list of specialists in a particular area. Some sisters actually called her Dr. Marianne.
SIster Marianne is survived two brothers, Eugene Mader and Gerald Mader, both of Greenfield, IN, and two sisters, Roseanne Huckleberry of Greenfield, IN, and Catherine Odle of Charlottesville, IN. She is preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Hall.
