Silton Turner, Sr. was born on January 13, 1934, in Simmesport, Louisiana to the late Henry & Leaster Harrell-Turner. He was the eldest of eight children.
After the untimely death of his father, Silton became the patriarch of his family. He quickly had to lace up his bootstraps, learn the value of hard work, and the responsibility of family.
Silton accepted Christ at an early age and became an active member of Mt.
Silton was very well known in the community as the local firewood supplier and the family farmer. He started his own pulpwood business with his long-time friend, Sam Kirk. He grew the best corn, okra, mustard greens, cucumbers, and purple hull peas to name a few.
Silton loved the outdoors and spent most of his time enjoying it! In early 1977 driving down an old country road, he met the love of his life, Doris Dean Brown. She was a tough one, but he eventually stole her heart. They were married shortly thereafter on December 24, 1977. “Mama” as he liked to call her, loved her “Doo” and stayed by his side until death.
Silton leaves a legacy and so many wonderful memories to cherish. One brother and three sisters – Henry Turner(Shirley) and Mae Lloyd(Willie) of Lake Charles, LA, Myrtle Dupar (Earnest) of Simmesport, LA, and Annie Sallier (Matt) of Marksville, LA; His loving wife – Doris Dean Turner; four children – Stanton Kinner (Debra) of Vallejo, CA, Gurda Stewart (Alvin) of Baton Rouge, LA, Elizabeth Turner (Charmaine) of Hesmer, LA, and Al Turner (Kyra) of Woodworth, LA; sixteen grandchildren – Tiffany Turner, Winfred Turner (Lindsey), Stanton Kinner, Jr. , Devan Kinner, Christopher Harris, Donneckia Chaney, Dontrell Chaney, Lexlee Turner, John Berry, Urijah Turner, Silton Allen, Deontrell Williams, Montreal Williams, Richard Smith(Tempest), Jordyn Turner, Alex Turner, and Ellis Turner; four God-children- George Guice, TaNeshia Ivory, Mitchell Stovall, and Sheakena Augustine; two sister-in laws- Mary Cabarra (Jose), Magnolia Ford (Freddie); 2 brother-n laws- Luke Brown Jr. (Adearane), and George Brown, Sr. and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Proceeding him in death is his 1st wife – Gertrude Silas Turner ; two sons – Silton Turner, Jr. and Richard Turner; one grandson- Silton Turner, III; two brothers and one sister – Isaac Turner, Walter Turner, and Martha Turner.
