Sigrid D. Simonsen, age 99, of Perkins, passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 28, 2016, at Christian Park Center in Escanaba.

 

Sigrid was born April 30, 1917, in Negaunee, the daughter of Antti and Hilma (Hakkala) Pasi.  She was raised on the family farm in Stonington and attended the Stonington school.  Throughout her younger years, Sigrid worked on her family farm.  Additionally, she worked for various employers throughout her teenage years.  On September 16, 1940, Sigrid was united in marriage to Edwin Simonsen and together the couple made their home and raised their family in Detroit and Stonington before settling in Perkins in 1953.  She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and Bethany Lutheran Quilting Club in Perkins. Sigrid was also a member of the LCW (Lutheran Church Women) and served as an officer for many years.  She was also very active with the Perkins school and the local 4-H Club volunteering many hours in a variety of programs.  In her leisure time, Sigrid enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting and gardening.  Time spent with family on the farm were her most treasured times.

Sons:  Stephen (Vicki) Simonsen of Dallas, OR

Gary (Bonnie) Simonsen of Mountain, WI

Kenneth (Mary) Simonsen of Perkins, MI

 

Daughter:  Dolores (Richard) Aper of Negaunee, MI

Sister:  Ingrid Menard of Escanaba, MI

Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

In addition to her parents, Antti and Hilma, and her husband, Edwin, Sigrid was preceded in death by:

Brother:  Veikko Pasi

Sisters:  Marie Mattson, Sonja DeCreamer, and Iline Johnson
