Sidney Burger, 93, of Highland Park passed away on June 20. Due to his family’s love and constant care and devotion, he was able to die peacefully in his favorite place, his home. Born in Los Angeles, California, on October 17, 1918, Sid spent most of his youth in New Brunswick, NJ before moving to Highland Park.

Sid proudly served in World War II as a staff sergeant in the US Marine Corps. He was most proud of serving at the Battle of Iwo Jima. After the war, Sid returned to graduate from Rutgers University on the GI bill. He began a successful business, S. Burger Wiring & Tubing in Middlesex NJ, retiring in 2004.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Gladys (Katz) Burger; daughter, Susan Burger; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Rockoff. Sid was especially proud of his grandchildren and spent many weekends being their greatest fan at football, lacrosse, field hockey, soccer, tennis and dance. He will be greatly missed by Adam and Lori Rockoff; Julie and Brian Schaeffer; Dr. Melissa Danko and Alison and Dan Zimmerman. He loved and was loved by his great-grandchildren, Noah and Hailey Rockoff, Jake and Ben Schaeffer, and Daniel and Anna Bella Zimmerman.

Services will be at the Jaqui-Kuhn Funeral Home, Highland Park at 1 PM on June 21. Interment will follow at Floral Park Cemetery-Washington Cemetery, 104 Deans Rhode Hall Road, Monmouth Junction.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
