Shirley Mae McKenna died Tuesday, March 31, 2009 after a long illness, in the Health Alliance Hospital of Leominster, MA. She was born Dec 14th, 1923 in Winchendon MA, daughter of Francis G. Murray and Josephine M. (Gooley). She was a graduate of Gardner High School, class of 1943. Mrs. McKenna worked at Robillard Pharmacy in Gardner, during high school; made aircraft instruments during World War II; and was employed by Fitchburg Paper Company, Thom McCan Shoe Store, and Singer Sewing Center. She was the owner of The Sewing Shop located on Main St. in Fitchburg, and through teaching shared her love of sewing with many area residents. Shirley was the widow of Henry (Harry) McKenna and is survived by her daughter, Sharon A. McKenna, her son, Scott F. McKenna, three grandchildren, Jonah P. McKenna Moss, Nicole E. McKenna and Corey S. McKenna, and a sister, Ruth Hatch of Magalia, CA, and her loving family and wonderful friends .She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, an exceptional talent with crafts, a green thumb with house plants, and for providing loving homes for several stray cats.
