Shirley Joyce (Emmons) Kerr age 96, passed away on December 17, 2020 in Frankfort, Michigan. Shirley was born January 6,1924, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The daughter of Wesley and Martha (VandenBerg) Emmons. She was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School. Shirley was united in marriage to Robert W. Kerr, Ph.D. on February 24,1945 in Kalamazoo. She was a member of the PEO (Philanthropic Education Organization) and enjoyed Art, American History, and Travel.
The most important part of Shirley’s life was spending time with her family. Grandma Shirl was small but mighty! She was well known as a card and board game cheater, a chocolate candy hoarder, and the best Sloppy Joe maker and Chocolate Chip cookie baker around. In addition to traveling, she enjoyed dancing and quilting. Grandma excelled at sending celebratory cards to friends and family which always arrived on time. Her family will cherish these and many other shared memories of these times together.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Wesley and Martha Emmons; and by her husband Robert W. Kerr, Ph.D.
Surviving are her three children: Robert (Jan) Kerr of Frankfort, MI, Merrie-Lynn Johnson of Rockford, IL, and Debbie (Jack) Scurte of St. Charles, IL, 7 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren and a sister Mary Lou (Bob) Kistler of Frederickburg, TX.
