Shirley Ione (Terry) Nelson, a long-time resident of Mary Esther, died Wednesday the 9th of December at Fort Walton Beach Rehabilitation Center.

Born December 12, 1927 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Shirley graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis and work in banking until her marriage to Waldemar Nelson.  

Shirley and Waldemar lived in Madison, Great Falls, Corvallis, Colorado Springs, Weisbaden and Ramstein and finally Mary Esther with the Air Force.  She was a world traveler; Europe, Japan, Australia and all over the United States including Hawaii and Alaska.  In Mary Esther, Shirley worked at Gaffer’s Department Store and for Century 21.

Shirley loved good white wine, shopping, bowling, good friends, her Boston Terriers, but most of all her six boys.

Shirley is survived by her loving sons and their spouses; Waldemar (Tina), David (Jan), Matthew, Kenneth (Cindy), Kit (Kiyoko) and Jonathon (Mutsumi).  She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
