Shirley Hudson, 87, of Centralia, passed away Monday, June 24, 2019, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. She was born August 20, 1931, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Charles Fowler and Moneta (Hober) Fowler.

Shirley married James “Jim” Hudson on July 2, 1955, and he preceded her in death on May 22, 2006.

Shirley is survived by her five children: Jimmy Hudson of Centralia, Elizabeth Navazi and husband Mohammad of Cedar Key, Florida, Melissa Nall and husband Art of Centralia, Kimberly Jones of Coppell, Texas and Mary Wiegel of Mulvane, Kansas; nine grandchildren: Christopher Ladwig and wife Beth Ann, Autash Navazi and wife, Natasha Landsberg and husband Adam, Alex Nall, Susan Jones, Sarah Jones, Andrew Hudson, and Lola Hudson; four great-grandchildren: Ava Grace Ladwig, Bryson Ladwig, Ethan Ladwig, and Jacob Ladwig; a brother: James Fowler and wife Lisa of Edwardsville; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son-in-law: Danny Wiegel, and her loving four-legged companion: Pepper. Shirley was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and moved to Centralia in 1939. She was a graduate of the Centralia Township High School Class of 1949 and she achieved her Bachelor’s Degree in Music and Education at the Northwestern University in 1953. She taught for a year at Field School from 1954  to 1955. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centralia. She was also in the St. Mary’s Church Choir. Shirley was a Co. Chair of 2 St. Mary’s School Auctions and Chair of the 1st Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser. She volunteered for the Junior High School Reading Program, Schiller School Reading Buddy Program, a Brownie Troup Leader at St. Mary’s School, and a Past President of the PTA at Central School.
