SHIRLEY HAMILTON was born May 19, 1958 in Homer, Louisiana to Jimmy and Bessie Hamilton. In 1959 the family moved to San Diego, where she received her formal education through the San Diego Unified School District.

After graduating from San Diego High School, she continued her education by enrolling in a nursing program where she received her Certified Nurse’s Assistant Certificate. She worked at several facilities including, Poor Sisters of Nazarene Convalescent Home, The Cloisters of Mission Hills and St. Paul’s Convalescent Home. Shirley worked for more than thirty years as a C.N.A. She was the best in her field and a credit to her profession.

Shirley later married Napolian Reed and three daughters were born to the union. She was affectionately known as “Shirley Grandma” by her grandchildren.

Shirley was very sociable and was known by many. She loved being around family; you could say that she was the foundation that kept the family together. She had a very kind heart and would give someone the shirt off her back if they needed it. She never let anyone go hungry.

Friday, January 18, 2013 was a gloomy day. That was the day God opened his arms real wide to welcome His loving daughter home. Although Shirley’s physical body is gone, she is still with us and will live in our hearts and minds forever. So let us celebrate all the good times and the memories we shared during the fifty-four years Shirley was with us.

Shirley was preceded in death by both her parents and three brothers, Chester, Jimmy and Charles Hamilton. She is survived by her three beautiful daughters, Tamika Beason (Marlon), Kamilah Reed (Eddie aka ChooChoo) and Randa Reed (Vincent); long-time companion, Ronald Dorsey; two sisters, Sheila Coxsom (Isreal) and Jacqueline Hamilton; three brothers, Willie Wright, Phillip Hamilton and Jonathan Hamilton; grandchildren, Tiesha Clark (Jabril), Tatyanah Lacey, Talawna Russell, Tracy Lacey, Eddie “CJ” Russell, Dorian Bowden, Raelynn Jones, Sequioa Jones, Aniyah Russell and Victorious Jones; two great-grandchildren, twins Tashayla and Jashayla Clark; two nieces, Jacquetta McKinney (Deandre) and Shavon Hamilton; four nephews, Frankie Page, (Lorine) Marlon Bennett, Jimmy Hamilton and Gregory Benton and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends who will mourn her passing yet celebrate her life.
