Shirley Elsie Matthews, age 88, died at the North Shore Medical Center after a long illness. She was born in Danvers and graduated from Danvers High School and Burdett College in Lynn. She is survived by her husband Ralph H. Matthews, Jr. after reaching 66 years of marriage on July 31, 2015. She also leaves her sons, Robert, and wife Robin of Marshfield, Paul, and wife Kelley of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and Ralph, and wife Judy of Oviedo, FL; her loving and devoted daughter Elaine , and husband Steven Sogoloff of Peabody; loving grandchildren Eric, Sean, Brian, Mark, Shelly, Chris, Caroline, Carter, Sawyer, Jenna, Connor; great grandchildren Mackenzie and Grayson. After her children were grown she began as a volunteer, then became a devoted member of the children’s section at the Flint Public Library in Middleton for many years which was a great enjoyment for her. She retired with regret after developing a lymphoma which was cured at the North Shore Cancer Center. She loved sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, games, and trips to New Hampshire.
