Shirley D. (Schmitz) Bacidore, 98, of Oglesby, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at Aperion Care in Princeton. Shirley was born February 14, 1921, in LaSalle to Edward and Pearl (Merdian) Schmitz. On March 4, 1941, she married Anthony J. “Polo” Bacidore. They raised two daughters, Jane and Laura.
Shirley was a graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School and attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in LaSalle. She became a registered nurse in 1943 and accepted a position at the Hygienic Institute in LaSalle. She eventually returned to St. Mary’s Hospital where she served as Director of Nurses and also taught nurses training at the St. Mary’s School of Nursing. In the early 70s, she continued her career at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru where she worked as a Critical Care Nurse until her retirement.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jane (Lloyd) Gribbin of Greensboro, GA, and Laura (Michael) Mantel of Princeton; five grandchildren, Gina (Ted) Doran, Lisa (Steve Prengaman) Gribbin, Deanna (Dan) Lewis, Jay Gribbin, and Joshua (Ashleigh) Dombroski and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Polo on November 2, 1997; her parents, Edward and Pearl, and a brother, Floyd J. Schmitz
