Shirley Catherine (Goodrich) Swanson the daughter of Orie L. and Cora V. (Young) Goodrich was born in Nelson, Nebraska on September 16, 1931. She passed away May 27, 2017 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital, Superior, Nebraska at the age of 85 years, 8 months, 11 days.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of the area, she attended the Nelson public schools, graduating from Nelson High School in 1949. She was united in marriage to Sanford D. Swanson on April 5, 1953 in Nelson, Nebraska. Two children were born to this union, Rick in 1954 and Avis in 1958.
Shirley was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Superior, Nebraska, and had just received recognition of her 75th year of membership with the United Methodist Church. Shirley was also an active member of the WW1 auxiliary; she was the secretary when the auxiliary disbanded in 1994. She was also active with the Rural Social Circle and Beaverville District 72 until they were disbanded.
She was preceded in death by her husband Sanford in 1993, her parents, brothers Lloyd Goodrich, Ralph Goodrich, Robert Goodrich and sisters Francis Geraldine Busboom, and Barbara Coon.
Survivors include her children Rick of Superior, Nebraska and Avis Novak of McKinney, Texas; two granddaughters Kassandra Mitchell of Floida, Sandra Novak of Austin, Texas; brother Donald Goodrich of Grand Island, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
