Shirley Ann “Honey” Reeves, age 69, a resident of Shalimar, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 27, 2006, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Shirley was born on April 3, 1937 to Lucille Courty Castanier and Albert Castanier in Kirksville, Missouri. Shirley met and married Bo Reeves who was in the Air Force. In 1962, she and Bo moved to the Fort Walton Beach with their family. Shirley help start the Cosmetology program at the Votech when the school opened in 1974. After her husband Bo Reeves passed away in 1985, she remarried to Mack R. Kirkland in August, 1993. Shirley retired from Votech in 2001 and had enjoyed retirement traveling in their RV. She also liked to stay active and loved her exercise classes at American Women Spa. Shirley was always happy and ready to help anyone in need. She was a volunteer and supporter of the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society. Shirley enjoyed writing poems and dabbling in ceramic pottery. Most of all, Shirley loved her family; she was a wonderful wife, loving mother, fantastic grandmother, and caring friend.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 13 years, Mack R. Kirkland; sons, Kevin Reeves and wife Missy of Shalimar, FL, and Kelly Reeves and wife Cathy of Mary Esther, FL; step-children, Kim Bryan and husband Craig of Niceville, FL, Rhonda Garcia and husband Jesus of Fort Myers, FL, and Carey Kirkland and wife Amy of DeFuniak Springs, FL; grandchildren, Kory and Kody Reeves of Shalimar, FL, and Kole Reeves of Mary Esther, FL; great-grandson, Bo Reeves; step-grandchildren, Cassie and Courtney Vicknair of Mary Esther, FL, Christina, Anthony, and Catherine Kirkland of DeFuniak Springs, FL, Marco and Diago Garza of Fort Myers, FL, and Tad Broxton of Niceville, FL. She is also survived by her brother, Arnold Castanier and wife Evelyn of Chicago, IL; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
