Ms. Shirley Ann Stout, 67, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 3:18 in the afternoon following an extended illness. She was born on October 10, 1954 in Stoddard County, Missouri to the late Andrew Jacobs and Elizabeth (Ross) Ellis and later married Samuel R. “Sonny” Stout on August 10, 1972 in Berrien Springs. He passed away in Elkhart in 2006. Also preceding Shirley in death are her siblings Louise Crenshaw, Mattie Works, Ruby, Sammie, Wesley, Alex and Jake Jacobs.

Shirley is survived by her beloved daughter and caregiver Shemiko (John A., Jr.) Stout-Warren of Goshen; sons Steven Stout of Fishers and Samuel Stout of Goshen; brother L.C. (Mary) Jacobs of St. Louis, Missouri; sister Mary James of Mascoutah, Illinois, grandchildren Kira, Shon and Sierra Stout and Seth Warren; great grandchildren Aiden Warren and Zahava Johnson, and a host of loving extended family and good friends. Shirley was also blessed to be expecting a third great grandchild, who’s birth is due very soon.

Shirley worked in the Elkhart area for several decades, at such places as Goshen Rubber, Walmart, and the Concord Mall, where she worked in custom service. She was also a very devout Christian lady who loved dressing up and attending church whenever she could. She loved reading novels, doing crossword puzzles, watching TV with the grandkids and going shopping, but nothing gave her more pleasure than having the family around, especially her children and grandchildren. She was also very proud of her home and liked to keep her house clean and well decorated.

Shirley was self-motivated, strong-willed, fiercely independent and was always in a position to take on the next challenge. She had a personality and a way with people that endeared her to others. She loved life, and it was obvious to those around her that she embraced every moment.
