Shirley Hoadley, of Three Oaks, was 89 when she passed away quietly in her sleep on February 8, 2018, at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman where she’d lived for several years.

Born on September 22, 1928, in Michigan City, IN., to John and Eva Hass, Shirley was the second of three girls and grew up in Three Oaks.

She graduated from Three Oaks High School and married Rodney Hoadley in June 1947, at the Congregational Church in Three Oaks. He preceded her in death in 2004. Their married life was spent in Three Oaks and Buchanan where they raised two children, Sherry Pries Bingaman (Dean Souden) of Stevensville and Greg Hoadley (Renee) of Spring Lake, MI. Others who preceded her in death were her parents and sister Jean Crockett; a sister Carol Ruff (Patrick) of South Bend, IN, survives.

Shirley’s grandchildren include Matthew Pries, Benton Harbor; Reed Bingaman (Jennifer), Grosse Pointe Farms; Ehren Bingaman, (Melinda), Kennesaw, GA; Robin and Jared Hoadley, Spring Lake. She had five great grandchildren, Nate, Darian, Sarah, Amelia and Reese Bingaman.

Shirley was a hard worker, providing bookkeeping services, until she retired, at Harger Accounting in Buchanan, Three Oaks Ford, Chikaming Country Club and as the Village Clerk in Three Oaks. A long-time member of the United Methodist Church, she sang in the choir, volunteered in the kitchen and belonged to the Soul Sisters. Many will remember her as their driver to doctors’ appointments for the Harbert Senior Center and as a volunteer at the Village Pantry.

Shirley and Rod enjoyed being with and entertaining friends at Bridge Club, Birthday Club, golfing, bowling, camping, dancing, gardening, collecting and wintering in Brownsville, TX, where she was a volunteer tutor in the public-school system. Reading was a passion.
