Sherry Macmahon

May 5, 1939 – December 30, 2019

Sherry Macmahon passed away on December 30, 2019 at University Hospital in Denver.

Sherry was born in Chicago on May 5th 1939, the third of four children born to Yvonne (Toni) and George Morris. The Morris family bought the Ranch in the Black Forest about this time and moved to Colorado Springs. Sherry shared a great talent for music and art along with her sisters Dede and  Jennifer, and her brother Raleigh.   Sherry was born with a love of horses and spent much of her childhood on horseback.  She lived in many places over the course of her life (New Mexico, Oregon, California, Texas, and England) but her heart has always been at Bridle Bit Ranch. Sherry met her future husband Alan Macmahon while attending college in Portland and they were married in a ceremony at the Ranch.  Sherry and Alan had two sons before moving to Austin where Alan taught Physics and Sherry raised Arabian show horses. Sherry and Alan separated after fifteen years and Sherry became a partner in an exotic game ranch near Fredericksburg TX and lived there for many years before returning to Colorado to help care for her mother Toni.  Sherry was a member of Colorado Springs Friends Meeting. Sherry earned a Masters degree in psychology at UCCS.   Sherry’s mother Toni passed away in 1990 and her father George in 2002.  Her brother Raleigh passed away in 1978 and her sister Deirdre passed away in 2012.

Sherry was a talented artist and musician, and is survived by her sons Gareth and Brian, her nephew Marc, her nieces Robin, Jenifer, Amy, and Lucy, her grandchildren Felicia and Michael, her great-grandchildren Lizzie, Sophia, Lily, and Cyrus, grand-nephews Robert, Andrew, Jefferson, Jacob and Cyrus, grand-niece Tori, and many wonderful friends including Catherine, Nancy, Laura and Santi, John, and Gordon.

Sherry died from injuries sustained when the original ranch house burned down on Christmas morning.  This was the house where Sherry and her siblings grew up, the place where our family has gathered for the last 50 years, and became a spiritual center for our family.  This sad event marks the end of an era for our family.

A GoFundMe account  (link listed below) has been established to help Sherry’s son Gareth recover and rebuild his life in a new place. Gareth had been living with and assisting Sherry for the last few years and lost his belongings in the fire.
