Sherry Gordon Townes, 62, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2021, surrounded by her husband
and children, at Emerson Hospital in Concord.
Sherry is survived by her husband Michael, her son Rasheed and his wife Katie and their

her daughter Aisha; her step daughter Mikel and her husband Jason Webster; her parents Dorcas
and Robert Gordon of Columbus Ohio; her siblings Carmella and her husband Richard Ross;
Gary and his wife Diandra; Charles; Brent; Eric; Victor and his wife Margaret; Mark; Lamont
and his wife Rosetta; Gayle; Ruth and her husband Patrick Reed; Tracey and her husband Patrick
Foellmi; and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is predeceased by
her daughter Tiarra Nicole Townes.
Sherry Lynn Gordon was born on December 1, 1958, in Columbus, Ohio. She came to the
Boston area to attend Brandeis College. After college she worked as an assistant for Gov.
Michael Dukasis. She took time off to raise her children but returned to work doing diversity
training for the Anti-Defamation League. In 1987 her family moved to Lexington, MA, where
Sherry and Michael raised their 3 kids. Sherry was active in local politics, becoming the first
black school committee member of Lexington, as well as an active town meeting member. Later,
Sherry and Michael moved to Maynard, MA.
Sherry was one of a kind. She was a devoted wife, beloved sister, and phenomenal mom. She
often said she was blessed to have her family. However, her family would say they were blessed
to have her as their mother, grandmother, sister and wife. There will never be another like her.
