Shelly Kay Hanson, age 58 of Longville passed away on October 12, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota.  After a long battle with RA she is now pain free. Shelly was born March 19, 1959 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota to Pat and Maralyn Tabaka.  After a few years her family, along with three siblings, moved to Minneapolis and lived in numerous areas where another two siblings were born.  She attended Neil Armstrong High School and in her junior year the family moved to Longville where she met the love of her life, Steve.  Shortly after graduating from Remer High School she and Steve moved to Houston, Texas where they were married and their daughter Rachel Joy was born.  Due to their love and desire for family and Longville they moved back to Minnesota where Crystal Joy and Ryan Michael were born.  Shelly’s children blessed her with 9 beautiful grandchildren who she nurtured and loved dearly. Shelly also mentored, welcomed and cared for David Fryxell and Andy Anderson while spending a major role in raising her little sister, Jeni and brother, Nathan.

Shelly spent 35 years working as the “go to girl” in the meat department at the Super Valu in Longville, which we’ll always remember her hard work and endless hours of dedication.  She loved cooking for everyone, riding in the “Shelly Kay”, pontooning on Woman Lake, joy riding on her golf cart, traveling on numerous trips with her family to Vikings games, Nascar races, Twins games, Hawaii, Mexico, Marco Island (her favorite) and “rubbing bumpers” with Debbie LaVallee during the ice racing season.

Shelly always had a niche for being tough, “sassy”, stubborn, strong-willed, confident, hardworking and loved by many.

Most of all, Shelly’s #1 passion was to make sure her family was always close to her, well provided for,  safe, loved, compassionate and caring for others as well.

Shelly is preceded in death by her brother; Randy Tabaka, uncle; Jerry Tabaka, aunt; Peg Smith, and grandparents; Mable and Vince Spencer and Jeanette and John Tabaka.

She leaves behind, to cherish her memory, her husband; Steven Hanson of Longville, daughters; Rachel (Jamey) Gross of Longville and Crystal (Josh) Thoennes of Grand Rapids, a son; Ryan (Jackie) Hanson of Longville, sisters; Chris (Jeff) Bednarski of Hackensack, Lisa (John) Tabaka and Jeni Tabaka both of Longville, brothers; John “Jack” Tabaka and Nathan (Mandy) Tabaka both of Longville, step-sons; David Fryxell and Andy Anderson, her grandchildren; Logan G., Mackenzie, Lukas, Tayler, Logan T., Megan, Brooklyn, Emery and Sawyer, many nieces, nephews and friends.
