Shane Ballenger, age 23, of Algona, Iowa died on Friday November 1, 2013. Shane Lee Ballenger, the son of Kyle Shane Ballenger and Neva Leininger, was born on November 20, 1989 in Algona, Iowa. He graduated from Algona High School in 2008. Shane enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on January 21, 2009. He served for four years and was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal on January 20, 2013. Shane was currently attending Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg to become a welder. He worked at Picray Welding and fabricating in Emmetsburg. Shane was a gamer and enjoyed working out, swimming, football and wrestling. Left to cherish Shane’s memory are his parents, Kyle Ballenger of Waterloo and Neva Owens and her husband Brian of Algona; grandmother, Sherry (Ballenger) Peter and her husband Larry of Algona; brothers, William Leininger of Algona, LCPL Jacob Anderson of Camp Pendleton, CA and Dalton Lee Kron of Algona; two half-brothers, Bo and Caleb Owens of Algona; a half-sister, Melody Owens of Algona; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents William and Mary Leininger.
