SFC (RET) Johnny E. Miles age 90 of Lanett, Alabama passed away at his residence on Friday, March 12th, 2021.
Johnny was born in Lanett, Alabama on April 27th, 1930 to the late Lee Robert Miles and the late Ivy Bell Crenshaw Miles. He was also preceded in death by his siblings William Miles, J.T. Miles, and Della Mae Miles Crenshaw, and Frances M. Gray.
Johnny enlisted in the Army in January 1948 and received his GED while he was enlisted. He retired from the military in January 1968 after 20 years of service which included 7 years in the 82nd Airborne, 2 years in the special forces, 2 years in the 3rd Armored Division, and 11 years in the Aviation Helicopter Unit as maintenance supervisor. He served in Germany twice, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
After he retired from the military, he worked 7 years for West Point Foundry and Machine Company, 5 years as maintenance supervisor for the Lanett Geriatric Center, and he was self-employed for 5 years in the heating and air conditioning industry.
Johnny was an avid gardener, he loved traveling, fishing, animals and working in his yard.
He was a member of the Lanett First Baptist Church, the Wayne Allen Sunday School Class, The Jolly Seniors, and the American Legion Post 67 in Valley, Alabama.
He is survived by his wife Iris Griffin Miles, Lanett, Alabama; siblings Pauline Thrower and Ann (Donald) Bullard, Huguley, Alabama; several nieces and nephews.
