Saverio “Sam” F. Stellatella, 78, of Toms River, NJ died on Sunday March 26, 2017 at his home. Sam was born in Nutley, NJ and lived in Bloomfield, NJ before moving to Toms River, NJ in 1969.
He proudly served his country in the US Army. Sam received his degree in history from Penn State where he played football, was on the Letterman’s Club and won the Liberty Bowl in 1959. He was a teacher in Belleville, Hillside, Lyndhurst and Manchester, NJ and in Insurance sales for Siracusa/Allianz. Sam was a member of UNICO and original inductee of the Nutley Football Hall of Fame in Nutley, NJ. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph RC Church and St. Luke RC Church.
Sam is predeceased by his parents Saverio and Giovanna Stellatella, his wife Lucille Stellatella and his siblings Frank and Dan Stellatella; Anna DeFranza, Honey Giordano, Jesse Grande and Grace DeCarlo. Surviving are his daughters Carolyn Stellatella and her partner Ed Slater of Pt. Pleasant, NJ and Sharon Stellatella of Ortley Beach, NJ; his sister Marie Weiner of Fl; his sister in law Lucy Stellatella of Toms River, NJ; his grandson Scott; many beloved nieces and nephews and Godchildren.
