Obituary of Saundra Lee Torns

Beloved mother, grandmother, and spiritual mother of hundreds she loved while serving as a substitute teacher for Saginaw Public Schools, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 11, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas while visiting her daughter and grandchildren. She was 71 years old. Saundra Lee Jones was born on June 8, 1946 in Flint, Michigan to the late Eddie and Lucille (McNeal) Jones. She was a proud 1964 graduate of Flint Public Schools. Upon graduation, Saundra attended and graduated from Flint Junior College in 1966. She later earned both her Bachelor of Science Degree and Masters of Arts Degree from Central Michigan University in 1969 and 1970 respectively. She became an Alpha Kappa Alpha member of the Eta Upsilon Omega Chapter Sisterhood. Saundra worked for three years as a School Psychologist and during the same period, for one-and one-half years as a Clinical Psychologist for the Benton Harbor Area School District and Riverwood Mental Health Center respectively. After 27 years of faithful service as a full-time counselor and part-time instructor of psychology, careers and study skills at Delta College at University Center, Michigan. She retired in June of 2000. Saundra maintained her credential as both a nationally certified counselor and psychologist and worked for Professional Psychological & Psychiatric Services. She was currently a faithful member of Faith Harvest Church in Saginaw, Michigan. It was here she became filled with the Holy Spirit showing evidence of speaking in tongues. In 2000, she completed the Holy Spirit, Five-Fold Ministry, and Teacher’s Training course. Saundra also finished the first and second year of Faith Harvest Church’s Believers Bible Institute in 2002 and 2003. She was also an accomplished author, writing “After Salvation What?” After writing her book, she finished training on Intercessory Prayer in 2004. Saundra was a faithful prayer warrior for Tuesday night prayer services. In addition she was the department head for the Greeters Ministry, a lead teacher in the Children’s Ministry and served in the Kitchen Ministry. Saundra was especially known as an enthusiastic soul-winner and team leader in church outreach events. She was a true model of a servant-leader as she loved the Lord and served Him with joy.

Surviving are her daughter, Cassaundra D. Torns-Williams and her husband Tommy Williams, Jr. of San Antonio, TX; and four grandchildren: Tamarian M. Torns, Tamaria A. Williams, Tommy R. Williams, III and Timani D. Williams.
