COLEBROOK –HALE – Sarah Lewis Hale of Smith Hill Road, died Friday, September 29, 2006 at her home. A summer resident and later a permanent resident for 85 years, Mrs. Hale was born in Lake Forest, IL, in 1907, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs.William Mather Lewis. Graduating from the Barrington school in Great Barrington, MA, she attended Hollins College in Roanoke, VA. Mrs. Hale completed training with the first class of nurse’s aids trained in Washington, DC, following the attack on Pearl Harbor and served for many years as a Red Cross volunteer in various capacities. The wife of Mason E. Hale, who died in 1986, Mrs. Hale was predeceased also by a daughter, Ruth Betts Trowbridge, and is survived by her daughter, Mrs. John Seacord of Roxbury, her son, William Betts of Colebrook, five grandchildren, Ross Delaney of Glastonbury, Sarah Delaney of Martha’s Vineyard, MA, Caroline Betts Salevitz of Scottsdale, AZ, Elizabeth Seacord Feldman of New York City, Jonathan Seacord of Roxbury and four great grandchildren.
