Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Wingate Johnson, 88, of Newnan passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015. She was born February 13, 1926 in Putney, GA to the late James and Essie Wingate. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Leon E. Johnson, Sr. her daughter, Sharon J Pettway, son-in-law Paul B Pettway, Sr. brothers, Alton Wingate, Marvin Wingate and Sister Veda Tison. Mrs. Johnson was a longtime member of Macedonia Baptist Church and a past worthy grand matron of the order of the Eastern Star. She was also a long time volunteer at Coweta General Hospital.
Survivors include sons, Leon E Johnson, Jr. and wife Fran of Newnan and Alan Johnson of Homer, GA; grandchildren, Paul B Pettway, Jr and wife Phyllis, James E Pettway and wife Angela, and Sarah Johnson; great grandchildren, David Pettway, Catherine Pettway, Nathan Pettway and Martin Pettway, brother, Stokely Wingate and wife Martha of Albany, GA and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
