Sara Gladys Dollen Adkins

Heaven has gained another angel, Sara Gladys Dollen Adkins, born July 17, 1932, of Kingwood, WV, made her way to her heavenly home on April 13, 2017 at her home with her loving family by her side after an extended illness.

She was 84 years, 08 months, and 26 days, leaving behind her loving husband of 68 years, George Adkins. She was the daughter of the late Ellihue and Luera Adkins Dollen. She was a member of the Kingwood Southern Baptist Church, where she served as Treasurer for several years. She was born and raised in Lincoln County, where she still has countless family and friends.

She worked several years as a secretary for Clem Teets Oil Company of Terra Alta, WV and later retired from Kinney Shoe Corp. of Kingwood after several years. She embarked on a new endeavor by taking in and caring for over thirty foster children who passed through their home in over twenty years, many of whom have gone on to further their education, acquire employment and have families of their own. She also found the time to babysit for over eleven children. Gladys loved home interior decorating, crocheting and ceramics, however her greatest love was for her family, her foster children, and her Lord.

She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Matthew Adam Adkins and foster daughter, Shannon Stafford, two brothers, Jessie Dollen and Jerry Miller, three sisters, Anna Cummings, Ermal Bragg and infant Lennie Dollen.

She is survived by her two loving sons, Barry (Connie Sue) Adkins of Bruceton Mills, WV and Larry (Mary) Adkins of Charleston, WV, three brothers, Russell Dollen, of Racine, WV, EJ Dollen, of Ripley, WV and Arthur Dollen, of Griffithsville, WV, four sisters, Shelba Bias, of West Hamlin, WV, Cornell O’Dell, of Cleveland, OH, Pearl Adkins, of Griffithsville, WV and Marie Atkins, of Madison, WV, six grandchildren, Brandon Adkins, Shana Adkins Nine, Travis Adkins, Erin Adkins McClanahan, Misty Adkins Vaughan and Michael Adkins. Step-grandchildren, William Greaser and Tammy Thiel and one foster granddaughter, Faith Mitchell. Eleven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Trenton and Taylor Adkins, Delaney Nine, Austin, Ashley and Morgan McClanahan, Kenny Ramella, Cody Daniels, Aubrey and Kate Adkins. Three step great-grandchildren, Steven, Christopher and Justin Thiel, one great-great grandson, Mikel Ramella and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
