Sara Evelyn Gordon completed a fruitful 99 years on March 16, 2014, as she quietly left this world to step over into the eternal life promised to her by the Lord she served. She was born February 16, 1915, in Anderson, South Carolina, and was the daughter of the late Sumpter Harley and Eva Kay Barton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Austin Gordon, and her granddaughter Kristy Shefelton. Being the wife of a Lieutenant Colonel in the military, it became Sara’s job to raise the family and keep the home fires burning – a job she cherished. Her legacy will be that of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and loyal friend. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, and, at the time of her death, its oldest member. Surviving Sara are her children Robert E. Gordon and Debra Shefelton. She was the protective grandmother to Alan Gordon, Melinda Franklin, April Shefelton, and Gracie Shefelton and great grandmother to Hope Franklin and Cole Franklin. She loved her extended family of nieces and nephews.
