Snow, Sandra “Sandi” Dennany, a spunky and compassionate soul with a contagious smile and memorable laugh, died peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2014, at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. Sandi, 66, a proud wife, mother of four daughters, and “Nana” to five grandchildren were surrounded by those who loved her.
Born on June 14, 1947, in Kalamazoo to the late Robert and Charlotte Frisbie Dennany, Sandi joined the Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth after graduating from Monsignor O’Brien High School in 1965. She left the convent and later met Ronald “Ron” Snow, who would become her best friend and husband of almost 44 years. An honors graduate of Kalamazoo Valley Community College with an Associate of Arts degree, Sandi worked as a claims adjuster for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Custom Benefit Plans, ProMed Physicians, and Borgess Medical Center. She also worked at Western Michigan University’s Sindecuse Health Center and Superior Business Solutions. In retirement, she volunteered at Loaves and Fishes food pantry in Kalamazoo, greeting visitors, answering the phone, and editing the newsletter. This work gave her great joy and allowed her to share her positivity with those in need.
Sandi loved the simple things in life: a stroll along the South Haven lakeshore, a good book, sleepovers with her grandchildren, baking Christmas cookies for friends and family, and making and sharing memories. She was a lifelong Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions fan and celebrated her beloved Michigan State Spartans’ recent Rose Bowl victory. She was proud to be the wife of a Kalamazoo Public Safety officer and worked tirelessly to give her daughters a solid foundation, helping them each to find their individual voices in this world and cheering them on as they reached for their dreams. Her family is proud of her decision to be an organ donor and finds comfort in her beautiful legacy.
She is survived by her husband, Ron; daughters Heather Michael Haas of Portage, Amy Mike Snow-Buckner of Grand Rapids, Kathleen Ehren Koelsch of Frederick, Colo., and Barb Rob Snow-Martone of Manhattan, Kan.; grandchildren Christopher Haas, Gabriella Snow, Gavin Haas, Grace Martone and Kenzi Haas; siblings Patricia James Banner, Robert Debra Dennany, Charlene Patrick Kulikowski, Gerald Rhonda Dennany, Gregory Linda Dennany, Judith Kenneth Taylor and Deidre Keith Dallmann; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
