“TOGETHER AGAIN” – Sandra Louise Ewing went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Dec. 22, 2022 at the age of 84. She was born on November 9, 1938, in Mount Pleasant, PA, the 3rd child of the late Ethel Laverne (Taylor) Zimmerman and John Ralph Zimmerman of Scottdale, PA. She was united in marriage to John Whitaker (“Whit”) Ewing on June 18, 1960 in Mount Pleasant, Pa., and they were married for 58 years until Whit’s passing on Nov. 27, 2018.

Sandy was a graduate of the class of 1956 at East Huntingdon High School (Pa.), and then went to Mount Union University in Alliance, Ohio, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and also met her husband at Mount Union. They first lived in Pittsburgh where Whit attended medical school and Sandra worked in a Chemistry Lab until their first child was born.

In 1965, Sandy and her 2 children moved to a Navy base in San Diego, while Whit served his country as a medical officer overseas in the Vietnam War. Afterwards, the family settled in Akron, Ohio, where Whit completed an Orthopedic Surgery residency and started his practice in Akron, which eventually became the Crystal Clinic.

It was during these years that Whit introduced Sandra to Dr. David Burnham, pastor of The Chapel in Akron, and both accepted Christ as their personal Savior. Their faith sustained them through Sandra’s 2 cancer diagnoses, and they shared a love of home Bible studies and volunteer work, including Sandra’s time as a church librarian. Sandra enjoyed travel, golf, hiking, nature, and caring for birds and animals; but her greatest passion was caring for her family and friends. Her generous and loving spirit will long be remembered by many.

Surviving Sandra are her children, Kisa (Ben) Weeman of Wooster, OH, Kurt (Tricia) Ewing of Akron; siblings, Jack Zimmerman of TN, and Janie Enos (Tony) of Pa; 4 grandchildren: Jackson, Ellie, Joel and David, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Whit, sister Barbara Kearney, sisters-in-law Marie Zimmerman and Dawn Sherwood, brothers-in-law Pinky Sherwood and Ron Kearney, nephew Patrick Sherwood, and nieces Shana Enos and Wendy Galloway.
