Sandra Kay Sipe Cheek, 69, of Graham, NC, transitioned peacefully in her sleep on August 11, 2022, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, NC. Born January 12, 1953, in Alamance County, she is predeceased by her parents, Paul Eugene Sipe, Sr and Sarah Elizabeth Murray Sipe, maternal grandparents, Jacob Clarence and Maude Fogleman Murray, paternal grandparents, Oscar Lee and Minnie Alcon Sipe of Bear Creek, NC, brother-in-law, Edward Smith; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Way Sipe and nephew, William Joseph Sipe.
Sandra was a loving mother to her son who survives, Justin Cheek of the home. Other survivors include her siblings, Hilda S Williams (Hank) of Snow Camp, Buddy Sipe (Tricia) of Burlington, Glenda Smith of Mebane, Bobby Sipe of Liberty, Susan Sipe and Billy Sipe (Cindy Conn) of Snow Camp. A special thank you to her Uncle Jack Sipe of Bear Creek whom she looked to as a father and adored after the death of her own father, Paul “Shorty” Eugene Sipe, Sr.
Sandra grew up and was a member of Rock Creek Methodist Church, Snow Camp where she participated in the United Methodist Women’s Circle, Choir and other groups. Later in life she attended other churches as her health permitted.
Sandra attended Southern Alamance High School and continued her education by taking classes at Alamance Community College and Elon College. She retired from Alamance County School System where she was a Teacher’s Aide, Substitute Teacher for many years along with other positions within the school system. She loved the interaction with the students of all grades and loved sharing stories from her workday. In addition, she was employed at Texaco on Maple Avenue for several years where she made many lasting friendships.
Sandra was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She enjoyed doing crafts, gardening, cross word puzzles, gospel singings and staying connected with friends on Facebook. She had a special love for her fur babies, Cheyenne and Brandy!
Sandra was known as “KayKay” and will be missed by her loving nieces and nephews: Kimberly Stutts (Rebecca Squires), Jacob Stutts (Stephanie), Denise Jones (Wes), Elizabeth Sipe, Caroline Sipe Lloyd (Jeremy), Holly Smith (Rachel Lewis), Sarah Sipe, Zach Sipe, Annalyse Sipe, great-nieces and nephew: Kayla Stutts, Ava Jones, Audrey Lloyd, Ryker Sipe.
