Samuel V. McKie, 87, of Galesburg, formerly of Oneida, died at 5:25 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg. Sam was born March 18, 1932 in Oneida, the son of Clyde Miller and Clara Lucinda (Hannam) McKie.

Sam graduated from the first class of ROVA in 1949. He joined the Army on February 10, 1954 and was honorably discharged on January 27, 1956. He married Norma Jean Swanson on June 17, 1956 in Abingdon.

Sam is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean of Galesburg; one son, Tom (Dawn) McKie of Cambridge; one daughter, Melinda Cation of Oneida; five grandchildren, Lindsay Cation, Amanda (Tom) Meredith, Alex Cation, Kiersten McKie, and Kendall McKie; and four great grandchildren, Marley, Lincoln, Sterling, and Selena.

Sam is also survived by one brother, Eldon (Kathyrn) McKie of Kirkwood, MO.  Along with his parents, Sam was preceded in death by two brothers, Rolland and Charles; and one sister, Rosalyn.

Sam spent his life as a farmer in Oneida, also working as a Pioneer seed corn salesman. Many words could be used to describe Sam, some that come to mind are kind, generous, fair, and dedicated. He served on the Fire Department for many years, and as a trustee for over 30 years.

Sam also served on the Oneida Elevator Board, Oneida Telephone Board, and a member of the Oneida Lions Club. He also was a member of the Oneida Presbyterian Church, a member of the church council, a life member of AMVETS, and a member of Western Illinois Antique Auto Club.
