SAMUEL quot;SAMquot; BURNETT RUSSELL, age 67, of Manassas, VA died Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at Potomac Hospital, Woodbridge, VA. He was a member of the Prince William County Sheriffs Department from 1959-1970. In 1970 the Prince William County Police Department was formed and he became an original member of the Prince William County Police Department from 1970-1976 at which time he retired due to medical reasons. While he served with the departments he won numerous awards for outstanding police service. He was also a member of the Prince William County Retired Police Association. He was born in Del Rio, TN, the son of the late Gaston D., Sr. and Helen S. Russell. He was also preceded in death by one son, Samuel W. Russell and two brothers, Charles L. Russell and Jackie R. Russell. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Nancy Hooe Russell, four children; Patti K. Johnston and her husband, Kenny of Nokesville, VA., Lisa C. Colgan and her husband Ray of Manassas, Suzanne Ford and her husband, Jimmy of Nokesville and Robert H. Russell, of Manassas, three sisters; Frances McCuin and her husband, Gene of Manassas, Mary E. Dillon, of Manassas and Nell Sheets and her husband, Freddie of Hickory, NC, three brothers; William D. Russell and his wife, Mary of Elkton, VA, Cordell Russell, of The Plains, VA and Gaston D. Russell, Jr. and his wife, Nancy of Manassas. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
