Samuel Lee Seat, Sr. Sam was born September 18, 1925 in Nashville, TN, to Edgar and Lorene (Mitchell) Seat. He lived a wonderful and fulfilling 86 years, then left this world to be with his savior on July 29, 2012. Sam will be missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched through his many years as a faithful servant to his God. After graduating from Nashville’s Central High School in 1943, Sam received his college degree and a commission in the U.S. Navy through the V-12 program. Following WWII as a navigator on a LSI in the South Pacific, he returned to his home in Nashville. Sam moved to the West Coast working in Medford, OR as an airline dispatcher. After a couple years he returned to Nashville, where he met his future wife, Helen Virginia Riley. They were married at a friend’s home in Nashville, on June 10, 1950 and three years later their only child, Sam Seat, Jr., was born. In 1954, Sam left his engineering job with the City of Nashville and moved the family to Louisville, KY, where Sam attended the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, earning a Master of Religious Education. Upon graduation, Sam held ministry positions in Jacksonville, FL, Durham, NC, and finally, Atlanta, GA. Sam served several Baptist churches in the Atlanta area and then made a career to teach. While Sam did not work full time as a minister, he never left his love of the Bible and his faith, working for numerous churches with their educational programs. His entire life has been one of devotion to his Lord, which continued until his health prevented him from working outside his home. Sam and Helen moved from DeKalb County, GA to a home they built near Moreland, GA in 1971. Sam continued to devote himself to his faith at Moreland Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Newnan. Sam and Helen made their final move from Moreland, GA to Chula Vista, CA to be near their son and his family, who live in Bonita, CA.
