Samuel David Turner passed away on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, at his home in Flintstone, GA. He was born in Chattanooga, TN, December 27, 1944, to Marceille and Samuel F.D. Turner and spent the majority of his life living in the Chattanooga area.
Sam is preceded in death by his wife, Verina S. Baxter, as well as his parents, Marceille Almon Turner and Samuel F.D. Turner. He is survived by his children, Wendy Turner (Chris Loga) Marietta, Georgia, Samuel P. Turner, Sacramento, California, and Eadress Baxter.
Sam graduated from McCallie High School in 1964 and the University of Chattanooga in 1969. He spent his life as a businessman and entrepreneur.
Sam served on several professional boards during his tenure at Favorite Markets/ComPac stores. He was Chairman of the Board for the National Association of Convenience Store Owners(NACS) from 2006-2007 as well as a past chairman of the Georgia Association of Convenience Store Owners, and was inducted into the Food Industry Hall of Fame. In addition, he served on the board of the Petroleum Convenience Marketers of Alabama, and the Tennessee Oil Marketers association.
Sam was also very committed to the Chattanooga community. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Hunter Museum, Arts Build, and AVA. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and the Chattanooga Iron Man and was a member of the Chattanooga Rotary.
