Samantha Jean Ward, 43, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021, at Taylor House Hospice from breast cancer. Samantha was born August 1, 1977, in Des Moines, to Ricky and Carol (Seddon) Hutcheson. She was raised in Grimes, graduated from Dallas Center-Grimes High School and received her Associates Degree from DMACC.
Samantha worked as a Child Care Provider for Grimes Child Development Center LTD for seven years. She was a very active member of Troop #171 Boy Scouts, Bras for the Cause, Band Mom, and was a life-time member of Girl Scouts.
Samantha is survived by her mother and step-father Carol and Rick Adkins of Unionville, MO, her father, Rick Hutcheson of Grimes; three sons, James Ward of West Des Moines, Logan Ward and Dominic Ward, both of Grimes; long-time companion, Mike Barker of Grimes, her brother, Squire Hutcheson of Grimes; two step brothers, Tim (Pat) Adkins of Omaha, AR, and Toby (Jennifer) Adkins of Adel, IA; her step sister, Tami (Jeff) Barnwell of Huxley, IA, her grandmother, Marie Hutcheson of Grimes, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Sam and Goldie Seddon and Jim Hutcheson.
