She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley Tomczak. Sally was born in Boston, MA on April 12, 1929 to the late Elmer and Frances Pilsbury.
Sally attended Mount Holyoke College, graduating with a B.A. in Psychology in 1950. After two years of working at Belchertown State School in Massachusetts, she went on to attend the University of Connecticut School of Social Work, graduating in 1954 with her Masters degree. In between her first and second year of graduate school she got a summer job at the Connecticut Department of Public Welfare in Waterbury where she met her future husband, Stanley Tomczak, who was employed there as a caseworker. After graduating UCONN, she worked at Connecticut Valley Hospital and High Meadows before leaving the work force in the early 1960’s to raise her sons. She resumed her career in 1972 at the Child Guidance Clinic of Central Connecticut, where she held various positions ranging from psychiatric social worker to clinical director, retiring from this latter position in 2001. Concurrent with this, she operated a private practice at the Family Counseling Center in Middletown, CT from 1981 until 2006. In 1993 Sally was the recipient of the NASW-CT Social Worker of the Year award.
Through most of her 66-year residence in Connecticut, she lived with her husband and family in the Yalesville section of Wallingford. Here she raised her children, and participated in community activities, volunteering for the local PTA, serving as a den mother for the Cub Scouts and other volunteer activities. In retirement, Sally enjoyed traveling, taking trips with friends to China and Russia in the early 2000s. Throughout her life she very much enjoyed vacationing at the family summer home in Saco, Maine with her parents, husband, sons and other relatives.
Sally is survived by her two sons; Stephen Monroe Tomczak and his wife Mary Ellen Crawford and Andrew Tomczak, his wife Evangelia Louizos-Tomczak as well as her grandson Hristos S. Tomczak and her granddaughter, Shannon Boni.
