Ruth V. Werkheiser, 100, died on Thursday, July 29th at Parkview Home.  She was born December 25, 1920 in New Glarus, WI, to the late John and Gladys Blank.

At age four her mother died and she and her brother were adopted by their Aunt and Uncle, George and Anna (Blank) Hutmacher.  Her sister was adopted by a great Aunt.  She attended Freeport High School.  On Dec 22, 1945 she married Owen Werkheiser. After many years of being dairy farmers in the Lena area, they retired to Freeport in 1989.  Owen died Feb 19, 1990. She was an active lifetime member of Bethany United Church of Christ.  She belonged to the Bethany UCC Afternoon Circle and was also a member of the Stephenson County Home Extension.  She volunteered at FHN Memorial Hospital. In her younger years she enjoyed sewing for her family.  She was also known for her baking, canning and gardening. Puzzles were her favorite past-time.

Surviving are a son, Randall (Linda) of Herod, IL; Two daughters, Donna Cannedy of Rochester, IN;  Patricia Grantham of Sheridan, WY;  Four grandsons, David Cannedy of Winamac, IN; Matthew Cannedy of New Lenox, IL; Andrew Grantham of Miles City, MT and Daniel Grantham of Billings, MT; One great granddaughter, Brittney Urban of Highland, IN; one great grandson, Shawn Falstrom of Griffith, IN;  One brother, Edward Hutmacher of Freeport and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; both sets of parents; sister, Bernice Schmidli; a brother-in-law, Robert Schmidli; a sister-in-law , Isabella Hutmacher; son-in-law, Gene Cannedy as well as several nieces and nephews.
