Ruth S. Miller, age 88, of Rome, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2014 at Bethany Gardens.

She was born in Rome on September 4, 1925 to the late Bernard and Ann Blake Shannon. She attended the Rome schools and graduated from the Academy of Holy Names. She graduated from the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. On June 26, 1948, she married Gaylord H. Miller at St. Peter’s Church; a blessed union of almost 50 years until his passing in May of 1998. Ruth worked as the nursing supervisor at the former Rose Hospital.

Ruth was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Peter’s Church, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was the class salutatorian at the Academy of Holy Names and graduated at the age of 16.

Ruth is survived by five daughters, Marilyn (Terrence) Kearns of Hubbard, OH, Kathleen Miller of Rome, Elaine (Michael) Dixon of Central Square, Maureen (Larry) Stegall of Lebanon, PA, and Mary Anne (Michael) Charette of Boxford, MA; three sons, Terence (Mary) Miller, Patrick (Sandra) Miller, and Brian (Holly) Miller, all of Rome; 14 grandchildren; three great, grandchildren; a sister in law, Diane Shannon of Rome; and a brother in law, William Weaver of Suffern, NY. She was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Miller; a grandson, Brett Dixon; two sisters, Eileen Kalk and Jean Weaver, and two brothers, Blake and Emmett Shannon.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of Bethany Gardens for their care and friendship extended to Ruth; and especially the patience and kindness of the 6th Floor team. Her favorite was the Friday afternoon “Happy Hour” with her friends. They also would like to thank Becki Benson for her support.
