Ruth Sylvia Crane, 83, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2015. She was surrounded by her two sons, Robert and Dean Crane and her Husband, Charles Wise. Ruth was born on November 3, 1931 to the late, Helen and Walter Rubenstein.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Allen and her husband, Michael Joseph Crane. She attended the University of Maryland in Washington, DC and worked for the CIA as a document analyst during the Truman administration where she met her husband to be, Michael.
They were married and had two sons, Robert and Dean. She left her home in Fairfax, VA and arrived at Fort Walton Beach in 1960.
Ruth was very involved in the community; she was a Candy Striper at the hospital when it was located on Hospital Drive in Downtown. She helped with the Red Cross and amongst her most cherished activities, she taught young children to swim.
She was also involved with the Follies, putting on a show every year during the 1960’s. Ruth was instrumental in establishing a Learning Disability Program in Okaloosa County and helped disadvantaged children to learn to read.
She was a founding member of Temple Beth Shalom in Fort Walton Beach, where she served with passion, performing many roles and duties to help it grow and mature. She served as a religious School teacher and Board Member, participating in various planning committees for the Religious Holidays. Her Jewish life was her foundation.
Known as “Miss Ruthie” for 20 years, she was very involved and instrumental in building the Northwest Florida Ballet. Ruthie loved Ballet and dance with all her heart. Teaching many of the beginner classes and helping many on their way to dance involvement. She served as a Treasurer, President of the Board of Directors and Artistic Advisor during her tenure with the Northwest Florida Ballet.
