Ruth Martell, 97, died peacefully at her home in Three Oaks, Michigan on Tuesday, January 19, 2010. Ruth was born October 31, 1912 in Three Oaks, the third of four daughters born to George and Lola (Ray) Mangold. She graduated from Three Oaks High School in 1930 and then attended South Bend Business College. On October 21, 1933 she married Arthur E. Martell in Three Oaks.
Ruth and Arthur were engaged in dairy farming. After Arthur’s death on June 24, 1970 she worked at Simplicity in Niles and also at the Bank of Three Oaks. Ruth was a very active member of the United Methodist Church and was a member of the local Farm Bureau. She valued her time spent on the farm and working in her gardens.
Survivors include her children, Charles Martell of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Donald (Marie) Martell of Dewitt, Michigan, and Marcia (Clair) Sparling of Oakland, Michigan; grandchildren, Robert, Carolyn, Steve, Sherri, Denise, Michelle, Alina and Lana; twelve great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
