Ruth Thompson, 86, passed away on November 24, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 17, 1929 to the late James & Conway Woody, Ruth and her family moved to Akron in 1943. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by brother James, youngest daughter and son-in-law Nancy & Jimmy Corcoran, and son-in-law Luke Jones. Ruth is survived by her best friend and loving husband of 68 years Arthur, whom she met and married in 1947 when he returned from the Navy; brother William Woody; Sons Art (Ginger) and Terry (Jan) Thompson and daughter Carol Wymer and daughter & caregiver Debbie Jones, as well as 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Ruth loved fishing and spent many vacations with family and friends in Canada. She also enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans and dolls for family and friends. Ruth retired from Akron City Hospital in 1991. In 1989, Ruth was awarded second place for ‘Suggester of the Year’ and some of her suggestions are still being used in the hospital today.
