Ruth L. King, 75, of Ashland, IL died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

She was born January 16, 1939 in New Berlin, IL, the daughter of J. Wesley and Mabel Williamson Flood. She married David L. King on July 29, 1966 in Springfield, IL and he survives.

She is also survived by five children, Becky Cherry King (husband, Dwain) of Ashland, Gerald W. King of Salina, KS, Paula King Kissick (husband, David) of Athens, Loretta Cherry McKenzie (husband, Bill) of Springfield, and Douglas M. King of Michigan; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Tammy Jo King; a brother, Paul Flood; and three siblings in infancy.

Ruth was valedictorian of the Class of 1957 at Pleasant Plains High School. She was employed for 30 years at Brownback Drug Store in Ashland until its closure. She was a member of the New Beginnings Christian Fellowship in Ashland and the Ashland Woman’s Club. An accomplished musician, Ruth served as an organist for the Ashland Church of God many years, as well as sharing her talents for many other community events.
